Youngkin Ad Blasts McAuliffe for Dishonesty

A new digital ad launched by the campaign for Republican nominee for Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin blasts Democrat opponent and former governor Terry McAuliffe, calling him “dishonest.”

The ad claims that McAuliffe is tied to former President Donald J. Trump, who once supported McAuliffe with a $25,000 campaign donation, but now seeks to distance himself from Trump.

“Terry McAuliffe is dishonest,” a voiceover in the ad says. “He spends all his time attacking Donald Trump, but here’s the truth. McAuliffe did anything to get Trump’s money.”

Star News Education Foundation Journalism ProjectThe ad features clips of McAuliffe bragging about how long he has known Trump, and Trump speaking kindly of McAuliffe at a 2017 governor’s dinner. It also claims the pair has played golf together.

At that 2017 dinner, which was held at the White House, Trump joked that he was ruining McAuliffe’s career by calling him “a friend.”

“McAuliffe asked Trump for $25,000 to support his campaign,” the ad says. “Golfed with him. Hugged him. Toasted him.”

“Come on McAuliffe,” the ad finishes. “Stop talking out of both sides of your mouth.”

The ad appears to be aimed at highlighting hypocrisy on the part of McAuliffe.

McAuliffe has bashed Trump on the campaign trail, calling him the “ex Liar-In-Chief,” and often paints Youngkin as an extremist for supporting Trump.

Youngkin received Trump’s endorsement last week.

“Glenn has been an incredible success and will truly Make Virginia Great Again,” Trump said. “Virginia has so much potential but has been badly hurt by awful economic policy, terrible crime, and the worst education system promoting Critical Race Theory, etc. But, Glenn will fix this immediately.”

He also called McAuliffe a “political hack.”

McAuliffe fired back at the former president.

“This is a disgraced president whose company has just been indicted for tax fraud,” he said. “The best thing that could happen to me is to have Donald J. Trump attacking me, one of the most disgraced presidents in the history of the United States of America.”
